----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Can anyone point me in the right direction i identifying a set of antique map sheets, copies of which have come into my possession. The area covered is the Balkans, from the Adriatic to the Black Sea, and from the Danube-Sava to Southern Albania and Thessalonika, at a scale of ca. 1:250 000. There are 8 sheets. The prime meridian is around the Madeira Islands. The maps are woodcut prints, untitled & anonymous, with no compass rose or map scale. The language is Greek and the map style is late 16th century. The map is liberally decorated with drawings of Greek coins and medallions. A more detailed description (plus a map section) can be seen at: http://cwis.auc.dk/~bste/grmap.htm ****************************************************************************** Bill Stevenson E-mail: [log in to unmask] Aalborg Universitetsbibliotek Telefon: (+45) 9815 8522, lok. 7357) Postboks 8200 Telefax: (+45) 9815 6294 Langagervej 2 DK - 9220 AALBORG Øst URL: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/2271 Danmark ****************************************************************************** Don´t raise the bridge, lower the river (Max Wilk)
