In the style that other maps of Africa by Sojourn have made familiar this map has a clear, attractive appearance. The front cover of the map indicates scale " RF 1:9,000,000 while the map inside indicates the scale at 1:900,000 which is in fact the correct scale. One questions how carefully the map has been proofed if such an error as the scale indicated on the cover of the map can occur. Nevertheless the map is a valuable addition to any collection that includes this area of North East Africa. The map uses hypsometric tints to indicate elevations and there is an inset map of Asmara as well an inset map showing the aridity of the country. The map is not indexed but does use many symbols to indicate features like national parks, sand dunes, road types, salt beds, airports, gas stations, embassies, mosques and other useful pieces of geographical information. There are line symbols to indicate the limit of minimum ice edge, median ice edge and the maximum ice edge. Unlike the two other circumpolar maps of Canada (MCR 4141 also at scale 1:10,000,000 and MCR 198 printed English on one side and French on the reverse at scale 1:7,500,000 both CDN $ 9.75 each ) this map does not use any shaded relief to highlight sea bed features.
