Actually, Gary, all I said was, "How many shells have common names that were borrowed from Latin genera?" A much broader topic than shells whose "English common name [is] identical with the scientific name". This is a good example of a general phenomenon: We remember by translating and encoding information in our minds, not by recording it photographically. Thanks for the support on "pecten," by the way. It's been an interesting thread; I could not have predicted all the twists and turns. Andrew K. Rindsberg Geological Survey of Alabama
