Hey all;-
There is such a thing as species. I know this because it is a
heading for every seller's list. It does, however, seem slightly more
ephemeral than we would like. We describe shells as "New Species" and
condemn "Old Species" as being synonyms. So your beloved Question Man
wants to back up ten paces and ask the question this way: Is the
concept of "Species" the same or different concerning shells, birds,
insects, bacteria, etc.? Do other specialities have different
concepts of species? Is there some base upon which we can all agree?
This question will not go away just because we have spoken about it
before and may have run out of ideas a few times. I suspect that some
definition is important to us. I wonder if a symposium would help?
Symposiums are nice since someone else always pays for them.
