Navy vessels and others tended to pump bilges and there were often "leaks" of other types just off Ft Story,(very close to Virginia Beach). The population fluctuations in the test zones had a very strong and almost immediate correlation to these occurrences. This was happening at the start and end of every cruise. The ships heading out and those coming back were readily visible from the beach. Schedules for merchant traffic was available from the Harbor Master, and as we were directly involved with the Navy vessels coming and going, I had a good grip on their scheds, too.I worked on this back in the mid 70's when we were stationed in Virginia. It was very interesting, just a sort of spare time obsession. Patti Lounsbury Los Alamos ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
