Subject: RE: Seeking Map Count for USGS Topos by State (fwd)

Hi all,
For what its worth: On the bottom of the front of the "Index to topographic
maps of Kentucky" (1980 edition) it says 'The number of published maps shown
on this index is 819" and the State looks completely covered with maps.
Method: check of the "Index of the topo map sheets of (every state) would be
a most direct way to count" Right????
Phil

Linda,

I believe Brian is asking for a state-by-state breakdown of how many sheets
cover each state. Let me say that this is a bit tricky in terms of counting
because each state has what I call "border quads" that overlap two states.
However, if I can start the ball rolling, I believe Pennsylvania is covered
by 884 quadrangles at 1:24,000. Maybe there's a quick machine-method of
converting the overall data count into state-by-state but if not then the
next best thing would be to have a librarian from each state report in and
Brian can build a database from there and then share with everyone?
