Subject: Re: Counts for USGS topos by state

Hi;

Below are the total counts of topo maps for each state as per the
USGS. Note that the "total" counts contain all maps at 1:24,000, 1:50,000,
1:100,000 and 1:250,000 but not at 1:500,000 or smaller. Each state count
includes all border sheets for that state, thus border sheets are counted
in each appropriate state.

The first number is the number of 1:24,000/1:25,000 quads for that state
including all border sheets - for Alaska it includes all 1:63,360 sheets as
well. The second number listed is the total count of topos at scales of
1:24k, 1:50k, 1:100k, 1:250k, including such things as both paper and tyvek
editions of national park maps, minerals management quads, etc. This is
any map that has a separate USGS "topo series" file number - this does not
include any of the thematic series such as GQ, MF, etc. These numbers are
taken from the USGS complete catalog number listing (USGS file number
listing) of topo maps which I obtained from them in 1999.

Hope this helps.
