RESOURCE: Africa Travel & Tourism Directory

Some members of this discussion group may find it useful to learn of
this
newly published reference tool in the subject area of African Tourism.

Africa Travel & Tourism Directory,
2nd edition (July 2003)

Are you looking for the contact details of a travel magazine
in South Africa or Egypt? The new
telephone number of the Mozambique embassy in
Dar-es-Salaam or Berlin? The nearest Air Gabon or
Ethiopian Airlines office? A tour operator in Senegal, Libya,
Uganda or safari operator in Tanzania?
The Hotel Association in Botswana, Tunisia or Ghana?
An e-mail address for the tourist board of Cape
Verde or Namibia? The website of the Mauritanian government
or the Kenyan Wildlife Service? The Gambian
Immigration Service or Customs and Excise in Nigeria?

Or maybe you don't require any of this because all actually
needed was a climax for your Napoleon in
Excile tour, a visit to the cliffs on St. Helena and are looking
for a shipping company which serves the island.

For anyone involved in the travel industry, obtaining up-to-date
information can be a nightmare. Now help is at hand.

The second edition of the reference book
'Africa Travel & Tourism' has been published by the English
publishing house World of Information of Saffron Walden,
Essex in concunction with the World Travel &
Tourism Council.

Ist 384 pages contain details of 15.000 tourist and travel
authorities, associations, organisations, services, media etc.
in 59 countries, from Algeria to Zimbabwe.

With 41 pages and 2.100 entries, South Africa is the largest
section. Tristan da Cunha (an island in the South Atlantic)
with 32 entries, the smallest.

The index is clearly set out in the following categories,
followed by several sub-categories: 1.) government tourism
agencies, 2.) tourism schools and institutes, 3.) tourism
associations and services, 4.) transport, 5.) outdoor and
recreational activities, 6.) publications and information sources,
7.) immigration and foreign affairs, 8.) chambers of commerce,
9.) regional and local tourist information offices,
10.) miscellaneous information offices, 11.) information offices
abroad, 12.) embassies and consulates.

The appendix contains extensive lists of addresses of
international associations, organisations and services.

The newest country-wide changes of telephone and fax numbers
in Algeria, Botswana, Cameroon, Cote
d'Ivoire, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania,
Morocco, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal,
Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo and Tunisia, are taken into account
and most entries include email and website addresses.
A 'must' for travel industry professionals, media, researchers,
governments, libraries, educational and other institutions,
business and pleasure travellers.

^^...excellent reference volume for anyone interested in
Africa and the African travel industry, and certainly the most
extensive and up-to-date directory of ist type that exist,
organized by country and including a previously non-existent
index of important international associations, organizations and
services for the travel industry.^^

Louis D'Amore, Founder ^^ International Institute for
Peace Through Tourism

^^You have done it again ^^ another excellent
directory. This is one of the best sources of contact
information for the travel and tourism industry in Africa that I
have seen. It is an indispensable resource for anyone interested
in the industry in Africa. For instance, I am not sure where else
you could find such a comprehensive directory of travel trade
publications for every country on the continent among
many other categories of information.

Scott Wayne, Managing Partner of SW associates and former
official with the World Tourism Organization and the World
Travel & Tourism Council ([log in to unmask])

"...the travel and tourism industry's most comprehensive directory.
The content is not only thorough, but the attention to accuracy
remains unmatched.

Edward L. Beauchamp, World Tourism Foundation
