Subject: Historical aerial photomaps of Europe

We found 853 aerial photomaps stored away in boxes in our Map Library
recently. On examination they proved to be of Denmark, Germany, France,
and a couple of other countries. The French maps are not dated but the
others are dated between 1933-1944 and were taken by
Sonderluftbildabteiling des OKL and Hansa Luftbild GmbH for the
Luftwaffe with several marked Top Secret.

Both of these companies were aerial photographers before the war and
were taken over by the Luftwaffe during the war.
It is assumed that the maps were taken out of Denmark at the end of the
war. The maps were released by the Director of OS Survey in 1952, and
somehow found their way to our store cupboard.

We have contacted the Imperial War Museum, and TARA, The Aerial
Reconnaissance Archive who were extremely interested in the maps. TARA
found that our maps filled in some major gaps in their archives
collection.

Our Faculty Dean has asked us to figure out a monetary value of these
maps for PR reasons. Despite much researching we were unable to put a
value on them as they seem to be both priceless and worthless.

So, other than TARA, is there anyone else who might be able to provide
us with useful information on these photomaps?

Thanks,

Stuart Gill
