Hi, Steve -

While I certainly don't want to confuse the issue, one thing you might
think about is using some of the work being done by genomicists to look
at these types of definitions based on the mixture of originating
locations found in mixed population groups. For example, I recently
came on an excellent article addressing what constitutes Mestizo
populations in Latin American from northern Mexico to southern Chile.
It's online at:

Wang S, Ray N, Rojas W, Parra MV, Bedoya G, et al. (2008) Geographic
Patterns of Genome Admixture in Latin American Mestizos. PLoS Genet
4(3): e1000037. doi:10.1371/journal.pgen.1000037

And, there are many more out there dealing with other mixtures.

HTH.
