Hi Ilene:

Good to hear from you! Your patron has consulted with me in person here
@ UBC, but I was not able to locate materials to assist him. It's a
frustrating case in that the Howser place name was apparently never
documented properly in the late 19th cent., so the origin is unclear. I
recommended contacting the local historical society and also the British
Columbia Archives in Victoria, BC,  for maps and surveyors' notebooks.
Presumably those searches were unsuccessful if he's now contacting U.S.
repositories.
