Subject: [ANZMapS] Summer scholarships for PhD sutdents at NLA

Applications from anyone wanting to use the National Library's map colelctions is particularly welcome.

Summer Scholarships at the National Library of Australia

The National Library is now calling for applications for its Summer Scholarships to support younger scholars. The scheme is designed for PhD students undertaking research on topics that can be supported by the Library’s rich collections.

Further information and application forms are online at:

http://www.nla.gov.au/awards-and-grants/summer-scholarships

and applications close on September 30.

Normally, four scholarships are awarded:

· Three Norman McCann scholarships with preference for those working in the disciplines of Australian history and culture, Australian literature, librarianship, archives administration or museum studies.

· One Seymour Scholarship with a preference for those undertaking biographical research.

The Scholarship is particularly attractive to applicants who would otherwise find it difficult to get to Canberra to use the Library’s collections on-site. Scholars receive an honorarium of $300 per week plus twin share accommodation with breakfast included, at University House at the ANU for the six-week duration of the scholarship. A return economy class air fare from the scholarship holder's home within Australia will also be provided. Scholars have privileged access to the Library’s materials and facilities, as well as sustained interaction with many of its staff.
