The MapForum article mentioned below also touches on a related story -
the secret printing of maps inside one of the POW camps, using
improvised equipment. Oddly, the large scale map reproduced in the
Waropoly article looks like one of the maps printed by the prisoners,
rather than a silk map.

Another recent article on the Monopoly maps (in similar light-hearted
vein to this one) can be found at

_MapForum_ had a nice short article on the subject of escape maps some
years ago: http://www.mapforum.com/04/escape.htm . Although not updated
for some years, John Rado maintained a site pertaining to silk/cloth
maps that had a good bit of detail: http://www.silkmaps.com/index.html .
As to the ties to Waddingtons' and Monopoly, _The Atlantic_ also just
had a recent blurb:
http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2013/01/how-monopoly-games
-helped-allied-pows-escape-during-world-war-ii/266996/

. There is actually a significant literature on these subjects, and I am
sure they are receiving some renewed attention due to the game-maker's
decision to hold a public vote on what changes to make to their
longstanding playing pieces.
