Just a rider to Johnnie's comment on the DIGEST option.

The listserv DIGEST option is very helpful where you wish to quickly
skim messages on the basis of the subject headings (the daily mail
message has an automatically generated list of subject lines) and
where you don't plan to reply to any of the messages (unless you have
a particularly nifty mail editor and can use it). It also helps to
have search facility on your mailer such that you can quickly move
down to the message 'number' of interest (rather than scroll down or
guess how far down the total message your actual message of interest
is located).

I find it useful for lists of peripheral interest where no USENET
option exists and for which I am essentially a passive reader.

Hope that this of some help.
