I think the survey you're refering to is the one done by U.S. Commissioners
Benjamin Reeves, George Sibley, and Thomas Mather, along with surveyor
Joseph C. Brown.  Brown compiled a "chart and way bill," but never published
it.  It is stored at the Missouri State Historical Society Library in
Columbia at MU.
Gregory Franzwa published "Maps of the Santa Fe Trail," an atlas with detailed
maps, in 1989.
