There are a number of villages in "Russia" with the name of
Blumenfeld. Most of these were established in the 18th and
19th centuries by "German" colonist invited by Catherine the
Great to settle in what was known as "New Russia" or the
Ukraine. A book by Richard Sallet about Russian-German
immigrants to the United States has one of the most complete
lists of all of these villages, with some cross-referenced
          with their "Russian" names.
