                             Honors and Awards
 
     The Geography & Map Division's Honors & Awards Committee is
seeking nominations for the Division's two awards. All members
are encouraged to nominate a deserving colleague. Nominations
must be postmarked by April 5, 1996. Winners will selected in May
1996, and awards will be presented at the SLA 1996 Annual
Conference in Bost, MA. Honorees for both awards do not have to
be Division members. The Awards are:
 
*    The Bill M. Woods Award: established in June 1975, this $50
cash award is given for the best feature article appearing in the
Geography & Map Division Bulletin during the calendar year,
(January-December 1995) prior to the Annual Conference. The
feature articles must show solid contribution to geography and
map librarianship. Contributed and co-authored articles are
considered also.
 
*    The Honors Award: established in May 1954, is presented to a
person who has made an outstanding contribution to the fields of
geography, cartography, or map librarianship. It may be awarded
for specific activities or continued outstanding service in these
fields. First consideration is given to members of the Division.
The award is not necessarily presented every year.
 
     Mail nominations for both awards by April 5, 1996, to David
