*Federal Documents Cataloger*

This position will copy catalog U.S. federal documents housed at Portland
State University library. Working with PSU Library staff,
the Federal Documents Cataloger performs cataloging, database maintenance,
and physical processing on documents that are part of Oregon’s
Regional Federal Depository Library Collection. This work is completed by
searching the OCLC Worldcat database, verifying accurate data in
bibliographic records, and adding holdings information to the PSU Library
catalog.

This is a State Library of Oregon position, although Portland State
University library is the primary worksite. This Limited Duration position
is expected to last for approximately 7 months, with the possibility of
being extended.

Working with PSU Library staff, the Federal Documents Cataloger performs cataloging, database maintenance, and physical processing on documents that are part of Oregon’s Regional Federal Depository Library Collection. About the Oregon State Library

The Oregon State Library’s (OSL)’s mission is to provide leadership and resources to continue growing vibrant library services for Oregonians who are print-disabled, the Legislature and state government, and all Oregonians through local libraries. This position is located at Portland State University.

The agency consists of four primary divisions that are passionately focused on the specialized services provided:

  *   Government Information and Library Services - Quality information services to assist state employees in the efficient performance of their jobs and in more effective decision making for state government.
  *   Library Support and Development Services - Leadership, grants, and other assistance to improve library service for all Oregonians.
  *   Operations - Agency’s administrative management functions such as board support, financial management, facilities management, volunteer management, information technology management, communications, and other administrative support services.
  *   The Oregon Talking Book and Braille Library - A free library for any Oregonian with a print disability, which includes visual, physical, and reading impairments.

What Are We Looking For?

A dedicated and technically savvy teammate with a combination of experience* or education** equivalent to three years directly related, technical-level experience.

Candidates who are the most competitive will have the following skills, background, and experience:

  *   Demonstrated proficiency in using library specific computer applications, including an integrated library system (ILS) and OCLC WorldCat
  *   Demonstrated experience copy cataloging
  *   Good communication skills with the ability to follow complex procedural instructions, oral and written
  *   Ability to execute duties and tasks accurately with a high attention to detail

Preference may be given to candidates that have:

  *   Experience cataloging federal government documents
  *   Familiarity with Federal Depository Library Program and Superintendent of Documents classification system.

*   Experience – Related experience includes evaluative, analytical and planning work at the technical level. Two years of the experience must have been in a library or related setting providing specialized clerical or technical support.

**   Education - College-level courses may substitute for one year of the general clerical experience.
