I just discovered a website that has more detailed free GIS data for
many countries in Africa than I've seen before:

The Southern Africa Human-development Information Management System (SAHIMS) GIS Library

I also linked it at:

This website has a fairly wide variety of things and a lot of it is at a level that is more detailed than by country.
If you've looked for data for Africa before you'll probably find this exciting.
