It is Anne Taylor of the UK who has created the lovely toolbox modeled after WAMLs. I simply forwarded her announcement to the Maps-L list.

wait—there’s another one? I completely forgot about it.

For those of you who are WAML members, you are more than welcome to get a login to the WAML Map Librarians’ Toolbox and edit to your hearts’ content. I have been meaning to send a note encouraging you all to do so, but I’ve been at least as busy in this work-from-home world as I was BC.

Dear friends and colleagues

I hope that this finds you and yours well.

In these strange times I have found myself working from home and one of my projects is to update the Map Curators' Toolbox https://www.cartography.org.uk/about/special-interest-groups/mcg/toolbox-index/<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cartography.org.uk%2Fabout%2Fspecial-interest-groups%2Fmcg%2Ftoolbox-index%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cacope%40UWM.EDU%7Cb086745f43bb44a0d29f08d7f84b0ef5%7C0bca7ac3fcb64efd89eb6de97603cf21%7C1%7C0%7C637250873573586298&sdata=%2BtC%2FNmyQXlqMRWqq3BXytT2fv30rn4pydtBtdypeBbw%3D&reserved=0>

This was originally compiled several years ago and is meant to be a first port of call for new colleagues, as well as a central place to find those documents or websites that you use infrequently but which are important/useful. In the latter category, for example, I count the list of suppliers of map chests (additions welcome!) to which I refer people quite frequently https://www.cartography.org.uk/about/special-interest-groups/mcg/toolbox-index/toolbox-6-equipment-and-supplies/<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cartography.org.uk%2Fabout%2Fspecial-interest-groups%2Fmcg%2Ftoolbox-index%2Ftoolbox-6-equipment-and-supplies%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cacope%40UWM.EDU%7Cb086745f43bb44a0d29f08d7f84b0ef5%7C0bca7ac3fcb64efd89eb6de97603cf21%7C1%7C0%7C637250873573596300&sdata=RjsX4o0gLmOgc5M4jEZ29lboyFUmXe6Z52XiOkA32MI%3D&reserved=0>

The Toolbox, however, cannot be an exhaustive list of every website that might be useful to the map curator/librarian/archivist - the maintenance would be a nightmare!

So, with these provisos in mind, I would welcome suggestions on:

  *
additional key/interesting websites
  *
additional reading suggestions, especially on map librarianship (page 3 https://www.cartography.org.uk/about/special-interest-groups/mcg/toolbox-index/toolbox-3/<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cartography.org.uk%2Fabout%2Fspecial-interest-groups%2Fmcg%2Ftoolbox-index%2Ftoolbox-3%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cacope%40UWM.EDU%7Cb086745f43bb44a0d29f08d7f84b0ef5%7C0bca7ac3fcb64efd89eb6de97603cf21%7C1%7C0%7C637250873573606292&sdata=QCLD5%2F5jIjSpTCbBcZcZQy88JRKmsel1blLighCYuT4%3D&reserved=0> )
  *
suggestions for things to delete (e.g. no longer useful, superseded by something else [please tell me by what!])
  *
typos, broken links etc. (I have checked all the links but I am at the stage where the more I look the less I see!)
  *
any areas not covered sufficiently (social media, digitisation and other areas have developed considerably since to Toolbox was first introduced). But please suggest links!

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Anne
