Can I disagree with Ernie and agree with Scott and offer my opinion that
being a *librarian* (as in M.L.S.) is the basic requirement. Without the
basic training in library science, you end up re-inventing the wheel--and it
usually ends up a square wheel at that. Also, along the lines of Scott's
remarks, it is pretty difficult to find a course in map librarianship, but
you can gain valuable experience in school via an internship or independent
study.

Hello map people, That is very good advice
coming from Scott. GIS and paper maps are important,
but being a geographer is the basic requirement.
