Do you have a recent political map of the New Europe?
I want a statistical summary for Guatemala.
These are common FAQ in map libraries. In order to have a list at hand of suitable atlases to answer these requests, we compiled two lists of selected recent atlases for the last decade: one for geopolitics, one for statistics (world and by country). They are presented below.
These lists are also good pathfinders to promote the use of atlases in contemporary studies. As they could be useful to map librarians (I hope), I share them with you and would appreciate receiving comments on significant titles I may have missed.
I draw your attention to an historical atlas that is the best source for most recent materials (!): The first title below (Grand atlas historique, Larousse, 1995) devotes a special section of 19 pages of maps, graphs and texts on the World since 1990 (p.253-271): world political, United Nations interventions, European Union, Balkans, ex-Yugoslavia, Baltic, Caucase, Gulf War, East Asia, expansions of religions, etc.
The first title in the statistics list (Les chiffres du monde 1995, Encyclopaedia Universalis) presents for each country a reference map with internal political boundaries and a very comprehensive statistical summary. A must in every map library.
