Hello,  An example of recent times is the area most know as the Persian Gulf.
 The U.S. govt.still calls it by that name, but there are world and nautical
charts produced in Britain and other European that label it by other names.
e.g. Arabian Gulf.  e.g. The Gulf.       Ernie Woodson, Map Librarian
