Dear Colleagues,

I am accessioning two maps printed on plastic, published by Printed
Plastics P/L of Melbourne, who claim to be the inventors of the "Duncraft"
Patent Perth, and publishers of the world's first plastic map. One is a
"Motorist [sic] map of Victoria", c. 1960, and the other a map of
Australia, produced at the time of the VIIIth British Empire and
Commonwealth Games held in Perth, Western Australia, in 1962. This is a big
claim, to have published the world's first plastic map, and I wonder if any
of you have earlier maps printed on such material - it is plastic of the
sort that picnic tablecloths are made of, at least here in "the sporting
continent of the world" (another claim on the map of Australia)!

Thanks for any information,
Judith.
