Subject: ["EXLIBRIS-L"] Reminder--Call for Papers and Posters for RBMS Conference in Iowa City

The 2017 RBMS Conference, The Stories We Tell<http://conference.rbms.info/2017/>, is taking place June 20-23, 2017 in Iowa City, Iowa, a UNESCO City of Literature with a vibrant literary and book arts community. We invite you to be a part of the story by submitting a short paper or poster proposal. Please note the submission deadline for short papers has been extended (see below).

The Stories We Tell focuses on storytelling as practice and metaphor in the mission and daily work of special collections. From writing traditional scholarly monographs to encoding digital humanities landscapes, from building deep and inclusive collections to designing new curriculum, the ability to craft a compelling narrative is at the heart of cultural heritage work. Donors honor us with the stories of their lives and passions. In discourse about the role of the humanities in education and policy, we speak for the significance and relevance of the past in shaping the present and future. At this conference, we will share our community's stories, while imagining future narratives for special collections in a rapidly evolving cultural and technological landscape.

Submitting a Proposal
Following are instructions on how to submit a proposal for a short paper or a poster. If you aren't sure which category your idea would fall into, please still submit it, and we can help you find the right format for it.

Short Papers
Format: Brief presentations, in the context of a panel of speakers, in which presenters share their experience, ideas, or research. We are seeking submissions that address the conference theme for any of the following content types:

  * Scholarly, research papers about materials, OR high-level work about libraries
  * Case studies: studies of how things are done well at a library
  * Reports, information exchange about collections and/or libraries.
  * Submissions may also vary in length:
     * 3 people, 20 minutes each, followed by 30 minutes for discussion and questions
     * 8 people (or 9), 7 minutes each, followed by 30 minutes for discussion and questions

Please indicate the content type and projected length of your talk. Proposals may be submitted as a group or individually. If you are submitting an individual talk, we will group successful submissions as appropriate.

How to Submit: go to http://rbms.info/committees/rbms_conference_program_planning/papers/ to submit proposals. Please limit the text of your proposal to 250 words. If you prefer to send the information via email you can send it to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Submission Deadline: Friday, November 4, 2016.

Posters
Format: Posters are a great way to share important projects and acquire experience presenting at a professional conference. Successful proposals will address the conference theme incorporating a graphic component to illustrate case studies, collections, or research.

Posters will be displayed on 30" x 40" foam board during session coffee breaks. Further guidelines for presentation will be sent with acceptance notification.

How to Submit: go to http://rbms.info/committees/rbms_conference_program_planning/posters/ to submit proposals. Please limit the text of your proposal to 200 words. If you prefer to send the information via email you can send it to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
