Hi, all,

At Branner we do not check out GPS units. This is all run through the
School of Earth Sciences Shared Field Measurement Facility. They will
check them out to any Stanford affiliate. See here:
https://pangea.stanford.edu/academics/field-programs/shared-field-measurement-facility

.

Patricia did check out about 50 Ipads (borrowed from Academic Computing)
for her class the other day to do data collection around campus for an
exercise. It will take a few tries with this to get all of the pieces
right, but it turned out well. We are also looking at purchasing some
handheld phones/small tablets with no data plans to use for data
collection exercises and training. Once we get things set, I'll send
another note about what we're doing and share any findings/instructions/etc.

Best,

Julie

Our library loans GPS units out mostly just to faculty, but we will also
do it for students if they ask for it. We have 8 Garmin Oregon GPS
units - definitely recreational grade units but are enough so they can
be functional in the field and get people familiar with GPS units. The
check out on them is dependent on what they are using the unit for i.e.
if they are in the field for a week, we'll check them out for a week or
if they need them for a night we check them out for a night.

: )

Our library doesn't currently loan out GPS units, but I would be
interested in a summary of responses.

Thank you.

We have an equipment loan program at the University of Maryland, and are
considering expanding it. Does anybody have a similar program and loan
out GPS units, and if so can you share the specs of what you use or do
you have suggestions on the most appropriate sort of units for this
purpose? I'd be happy to compile responses and send out a summary if
people are interested.

Thanks,

Lara
