INTERNET ACCESS TO USGS NMD TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE

The National Mapping Division (NMD) of the U.S. Geological Survey now offers
certain of its technical instructions on Internet.

The NMD produces, maintains, and provides a national series of base
cartographic data. The Technical Instructions (TI) program has been
established to assist in defining, maintaining, and publishing technical
documentation in support of these activities. A major portion of the TI
program is documentation of product standards and software, and the
description of cartographic processes. A checklist of printed documents,
available through the Earth Science Information Center (ESIC) network in
printed form, lists an describes the documents. ESIC researchers may be
reached at 1-800-USA-MAPS.

Some NMD TI documents, including the checklist, are now available via File
Transfer Protocol (FTP) on Internet. Additional documents will be added as
they are published.
