is a new Web service that supports management of serials information.
Users can supply an ISSN to find out about any predecessor, successor
and alternate ISSNs and titles, as well as find the electronic ISSN for
a print title or vice versa.
xISSN offers a machine-ready XML service for easy integration into
library applications, Web sites, link resolvers, cataloging
tools---anywhere top-quality serials data is needed. In addition, a
human-ready demonstration interface known as Title History

is available at no charge. The current xISSN database covers 690,233 ISSNs.
ISSNs are associated with each other using librarian-cataloged
bibliographic records in WorldCat. ISSNs are related in two different
ways: different editions of same serial (such as print and online
editions) and historical relationships (ISSN changes that result from
title changes, mergers, splits, etc.). To use the service, submit an
ISSN embedded in a URL to the xISSN server, and the server returns a
list of associated ISSNs and relevant metadata. ISSNs for different
editions of the same serial are grouped together. An ISSN group may also
have historical relationships with other groups.

*Mobile map usage growing much faster than online map usage*
comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, reported that
the use of mobile maps is increasingly popular in the United States and
Europe, with 8 percent of American mobile subscribers and 3 percent of
European subscribers accessing maps from mobile phones during a
three-month period ending May 2008. This represents a growth rate of 82
percent and 49 percent in the number of users, respectively. According
to the comScore M:Metrics Benchmark Study, the iPhone is the leading
device used to access maps in the United States, and in Europe, the
iPhone trails the Nokia N95 and N70.
While mobile access to maps has surged, online access to maps using the
PC shows more modest gains in the United States and Western Europe. In
the United Kingdom, which posted the highest growth in mobile access to
maps at 72 percent, online access via the PC dipped from 45 percent
penetration in May 2007 to 41 percent in May 2008. In the United States,
the increase in the number of users accessing maps from a mobile device
far outpaced the increase in the number of people who accessed maps via
the PC.

translates metadata records from one format to another and will process
up to 500 records from all requests per user, per day. With the aid of
the WSDL file, users can develop a client to access the service, which

(for an undecided duration).
The service was developed to handle the interoperability needs of the
