Hey Tony,

The quad you pictured is of Sunland and looks like one of those "Geological atlas of the US" folios because of the text on the back. So, that inspired us to check our holdings in that Geological Atlas series. There is a "shelf list" booklet of sorts for that Geologic atlas series and it does not list a Sunland or San Fernando quad as having been published for 1897. That booklet lists 6 quads that were published in 1897 (Pueblo, Downieville, Butte special, Truckee, Wartburg and Sonora). But, this may just be referring to quads as part of that series.

In the regular topos of our collection ... we did not find a Sunland at all at 1:62,500 for 1897 but we did find a Fernando quad with the 1897 date. Someone wrote "San" in pencil and it is filed with San Fernando. It is dated 1897 with a statement "edition of 1900" and "reprinted in 1910." This has text on the back which is obscured by linen. The title on that text says, "Description of the topoographic map of the United States."

I'm not sure if that's a lot of help but ... I'm attaching an image that is a photo from my camera. Let me know if you need a better view of some section or a full, high res scan.

Ciao.

Subject: [MAPS-L] Looking for San Fernando (CA) 1897 quadrangle 1:62,500

Hello, would anyone have this quadrangle:

"THIS AREA IS SHOWN ON THE MAP OF SAN FERNANDO

QUADRANGLE, SURVEYED IN 1897, SCALE 1:62,500"

(Please see the attached Sunland quadrangle).

Many thanks
