'Map History/History of Cartography: THE Gateway to the Subject'
        ------------------------------------------------------

This site has just moved to a new permanent home, after six years at the
Institute of Historical Research (University of London). Having been
frozen since June, the site is now fully functional in its new home -
with
the more appropriate address < http://www.maphistory.info >. The new
host is Jack Benson of ammonet.com, who also hosts the sites for the
Society for the History of Discoveries and the Hakluyt Society, as well
as that for the International Antiquarian Mapsellers Association, and
bibliophile.net (his own book search site). He has very kindly agreed
to sponsor 'Map History'.

Please alter any links or bookmarks you have to the site, straightaway.
The old site has already been taken down (though forwarding messages
have been left). To assist in the work of chasing up some hundreds of
sites that have links to the old 'Map History' URLs, it would be most
helpful if you could let me know (offlist) when you change a link. The
former URL will be one of the following forms (possibly with an
extension):

http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/
http://www.ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/
http://www.ihrinfo.ac.uk/maps/
http://www.history.ac.uk/maps/

If there was an extension that bit should be repeated after the stem:
http://www.maphistory.info/

If you do not already know the site, please take a moment to have a look
at
it. You can see from the Homepage or its Sitemap the range of topics
covered. Updates are made regularly, with more major additions noted on
the What's New page.
