Robin,

At the University of Maryland Library, we have a Wuhan city map dated 1945, at a scale of 1:25,000. It is from the Army Map Service collection, so may be available at a library closer to you. We have another Wuhan map showing main streets, major buildings, etc., but I could not find a date or scale on the map. At present I don't have access to the maps, but hopefully will have in another two weeks or so. But someone inside the building may be able to find them and maybe copy or scan them if needed sooner - let me know.

Sincerely,

James Nealis

Subject: Ref Q: Maps of Wuhan and Hangzhou, 20th century

Dear List Members,

A student is looking for maps of Wuhan and Hangzhou in the 20th century. Bonus if anyone also has sources for photos the patron describes below:

I've really been struggling to find photos and maps of 20th century Hangzhou/Wuhan, and I'm in particular looking for photos that show life during, around, or after disasters. Materials used in building, what kinds of boats people used, whether they had enough cows to plow with, the steps taken against malaria in their living environments, the kinds of plants around, missionary camps... Maps I'll take any you can find! I'm desperate!

Thank you very much for any help you can give.

Robin Rank
