Subject: Am. for Disabilities Act and map libraries

Because we are studying this issue here, I am wondering what is
happening in map libraries in general to meet ADA standards, and to
provide assistance to readers who are blind, in wheelchairs, etc.

Some unique items in map libraries, as Nancy Kandoian reminded me this
morning, are LARGE PRINT atlases and BRAILLE maps. We only have
samples of the latter. I believe also for the visually impaired there
are enlarging screens for computers; and fonts can be enlarged.

Are there other services being provided in the map community about
which we should all know, and perhaps pursue?

Many thanks for your input, Alice Hudson Map Division, NYPL
