Calling all Catalogers! (not just map catalogers)

Members of the RDA Restructure and Redesign Task Force (3RTF), under the Cataloging and Classification Committee of the Map and Geospatial Information Round Table (MAGIRT), a unit within the American Library Association, recently completed work on a set of guidelines initially formulated in 2017 as a map cataloging best practices document called “Guidelines for Cataloging Cartographic Resources using RDA”. A full revision of this document was undertaken including additions, corrections, and hopefully clarity where needed. In September, a draft was vetted by the remaining members of the Cataloging and Classification Committee, and minor changes were made. The goal, once in final form, is to use our document as the basis of a full Application Profile for cartographic resources within the “new” RDA that will be launched in December 2020 for all catalogers.

Now it is time to put this tool in front of catalogers everywhere whose work entails creating records for cartographic resources part time or full time. We need your comments! Suggestions! Input!

If you are willing to help please go to the following page, scroll down to “Working and Draft Documents” and click on the link to the Guidelines: http://www.ala.org/rt/magirt/committees/catalogingandclassification<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ala.org%2Frt%2Fmagirt%2Fcommittees%2Fcatalogingandclassification&data=02%7C01%7Cpga2%40psu.edu%7Ca81d52f25aa241f25a7008d87059c1f8%7C7cf48d453ddb4389a9c1c115526eb52e%7C0%7C1%7C637382878094594395&sdata=uzmcWKQgKontV6Ps%2Bd9KgsM3NbE2gR6%2BWX5OOk1J3lY%3D&reserved=0>

Feel free to download the Guidelines, review, take notes, and then contact the 3RTF members through Paige Andrew at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Deadline for submission is November 15, 2020.
