Hi Tony,

We purchased a Contex UlutraHD X 44" about 18 months ago. We are pleased with it so far. The software is decent and allows for easy batching and batch numbering. It's quick and scans well. We are pleased with the scan quality but haven't done any testing compared to other scanners.

I am attaching the decision spreadsheet we made. Realize info is about 2.5 years old now. You can see who we did reference checks with and appreciate those on this list who helped us.

We did not want the maps to drop down into a "basket" so we purchased the Zero Turn document station that serves to hold the scanner and attached computer/monitor. I feel like it's worth the ~$2500 since we didn't have to take up a table to set the scanner on. The footprint of the scanning station is substantial, but it keeps the maps flat when they come out of the scanning. A must for us. The maps drop down the back onto a slanted surface that isn't shown. See attached images. Please pardon the "mess."

We purchased the lowest priced scanner of our top three but that was not the deciding factor. The spreadsheet is filtered to our top three, but expand for other options.

Feel free to ask me more questions.

Subject: Large-scale scanner replacement ideas requested

Hello, we currently have an HP Designjet 815mfp large-scale (44”) scanner, it dates from 2005. We would like to replace it.

It was primarily used for scanning topographic and geologic maps, as well as other large supplemental map material, like those in the back of pockets of monographs and theses.

Does anybody have any recommendations for replacement? Preferably an HP brand.

Thank you!
