There was a discussion of this last year at Maps-L when I asked the same question. I created this libguide: http://guides.library.uwm.edu/c.php?g=824760 Not everything is available via Library of Congress but most of it and in color. You can search the Maps-L archives<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?REPORT&z=4&1=MAPS-L&L=MAPS-L&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> with the term: "Sanborn maps online" and get these results: LISTSERV.UGA.EDU (15 Matches) Item # Date Time Lines Subject List Name 030298<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1812&L=MAPS-L&P=R2203&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-12-04 13:10 145 Fimo -- Sanborn Maps Online MAPS-L 029917<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1804&L=MAPS-L&P=R60885&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-04-30 11:29 427 Re: Sanborn and fire insurance maps online MAPS-L 029855<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1804&L=MAPS-L&P=R15649&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-04-05 09:31 1066 Re: Sanborn and fire insurance maps online MAPS-L 029853<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1804&L=MAPS-L&P=R14768&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-04-05 09:23 294 Sanborn and fire insurance maps online MAPS-L 029804<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1803&L=MAPS-L&P=R8127&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-03-08 11:36 260 Re: Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 029803<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1803&L=MAPS-L&P=R7390&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-03-08 10:28 736 Re: Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 029802<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1803&L=MAPS-L&P=R7122&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-03-08 09:54 267 Re: Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 029801<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1803&L=MAPS-L&P=R6761&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-03-08 09:36 360 Re: Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 029800<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1803&L=MAPS-L&P=R6442&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-03-08 09:33 318 Re: Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 029799<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1803&L=MAPS-L&P=R6220&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2018-03-08 09:21 221 Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 029500<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1710&L=MAPS-L&P=R7658&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2017-10-12 11:53 709 Re: Sanborn Fire Insurance map dates MAPS-L 029498<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1710&L=MAPS-L&P=R6865&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2017-10-12 11:28 731 Re: Sanborn Fire Insurance map dates MAPS-L 029497<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1710&L=MAPS-L&P=R6234&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2017-10-12 11:18 630 Re: Sanborn Fire Insurance map dates MAPS-L 028803<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1612&L=MAPS-L&P=R3995&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2016-12-09 07:01 419 Sanborn maps online MAPS-L 028800<https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1612&L=MAPS-L&P=R3400&X=52FF0629E4F1E42689&Y=acope%40uwm.edu> 2016-12-07 10:35 195 Sanborn maps online MAPS-L Angie Cope AGS Library, UW Milwaukee Libraries 2311 E. Fimo includes a nearly full collection of full-color Sanborn maps – much better quality images than the ProQuest Sanborn Maps database, and an easier interface. I’m wondering if any of you have purchased this product or seen a demo or had a trial at your library. Seems to me that more and more Sanborn maps are freely available in high resolution online (and apparently more will go out of copyright soon?), but these collections are scattered. And if you’re a person without any specialized map or GIS knowledge, having tools like Fimo that automatically layer on contemporary base maps is very attractive. Plus, Fimo claims to have all the corrected versions of maps (those little white pieces of paper they pasted over spots on the map.), and records of when the corrections were made. I’d welcome your thoughts and observations!
