The National Geo-Data Policy Forum was held in early May, 1993. Nearly 750
attendees spent three days debating various policy concerns related to the
development and evolution of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
Issues such as public access, data fees, copyright, liability, privacy, and
roles of government and the private sector were discussed in plenary, panel,
and small group sessions.

The final session of the Forum provided a synopsis and summary of key points
and a discussion on necessary steps to move forward most productively in
building the NSDI. Participants expressed a desire to continue the dialogue
begun at the Forum. To that end, a meeting has been scheduled for Saturday
July 24, 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia, from 12 noon to 5 pm, and continuing
Sunday, July 25 from 8:30 am to 12 noon. >>> Discussions at the meeting will
focus on the roles of various sectors and organizations in developing the
NSDI. <<< This meeting will immediately precede the URISA'93 Conference in
Atlanta July 25-29.

Among the agencies and organizations endorsing and participating in these
continuing discussions are the Association of American Geographers (AAG), the
Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the Environmental Systems Research
Institute (ESRI), the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), Intergraph
Corporation, the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis
(NCGIA), the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC), and the
Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA).

If you are interested in participating, please call, or send a facsimile or
e-mail message with your name and address by July 9, 1993 to the following
contacts. Background materials and details about the meeting will be sent to
you. Please note "GEO-DATA MEETING" in your message.
