Reference Librarian

Colorado School of Mines' Arthur Lakes Library invites applications for
the faculty position of assistant reference librarian.  RESPONSIBILITIES
INCLUDE: staffing the reference desk; providing instruction and assistance
to library users, including instruction on electronic resources; database
searching; reference collection development activities; serving as a
liaison to academic departments; participating on library and campus
committees; engaging in professional, scholarly, and service
activities; participating in general operations of the reference
section; and special projects as assigned. Must demonstrate potential for
professional growth and development.  Some evening and weekend hours
required.

The Colorado School of Mines is a doctoral-granting institution devoted to
engineering and applied science, particularly in the areas of energy,
mineral, and materials science and engineering.  The Arthur Lakes Library
is a specialized technical library that supports the educational and
research goals of the Colorado School of Mines and serves as a regional
center for information in engineering and science.  The Library staff
consists of 9.5 FTE library faculty and 11 support staff.  For more

REQUIRED: Master's degree in library science, and either a bachelor's
degree in a science/engineering field or at least one year of experience
in science/engineering library reference. PREFERRED: A second master's
degree in a science/engineering field; additional library experience in
science/engineering; and experience with computer applications, including
electronic applications.  A strong public service orientation,
adaptability to a rapidly changing information environment, and good
communication skills are of extreme importance.  Salary: Minimum $36,000,
negotiable commensurate with experience.
