As a member of CUAC, I have been participating in discussions about the soon to be revised North American Profile of the ISO Metadata Standard for Geographic Information. The profile has been developed jointly in conjunction with other geospatial organizations in North America. Unfortunately, in order to comment on it, you first have to purchase it from ANSI. The comment period ends October 6. If you wish to comment, see the information below. Linda Zellmer
P.S. If approved, the standard may only be available for a fee, not for free. This is like charging to use the MARC format.

The American National Standards Institute is sponsoring a public review of the North American Profile of ISO 19115: 2003 Geographic Information - Metadata (NAP_Metadata). Comment period is August 22 - October 6, 2008 at 12:00 midnight Eastern Standard Time. Reviews need to purchase an electronic copy of the NAP-Metadata from http//www.incits.org or http://webstore .ansi.org. A charge of $30.00 (thirty dollars) is assessed for the draft NAP. Comments shall be sent to Barbara Bennett at bbennett[at]itic.org. Reviewer are strongly encouraged to use the comment form ( Word , Excel ) and follow the instructions provided in FGDC Standards Directive #2d, Standards Working Group Review Guidelines: Review Comment Template, http://www.fgdc.gov/standards/process/standards-directives/directive-2d-standards-working-group-review-guidelines-review-comment-template for completing the form.
Members of the FGDC Metadata Work Group are invited to a series of webinars hosted by the FGDC. The purpose of the webinars is to gain a set of consensus-built comments for the ANSI review. Please review the NAP-Metadata prior to the webinar. Email me if you wish to take part in the webinar; the date and time will be based on the availability of the group. I'm looking at September 17 and 18th or 24 and 25 all day if necessary. To save time please send your comments to me by the COB the Tuesday prior to the webinar. I will combine the comments prior to the webinar. To expedite the review the technical comments will be reviewed first and if time remains then the general and editorial comments will be addressed.
Comments resulting from the review will be adjudicated in mid-October. Editing will be completed by end of November. The NAP-Metadata will then be processed by both the Secretariat of the U.S. based InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) and the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) before it is approved and simultaneously published as an American National Standard (ANS) and a Canadian National Standard.
