Subject: How many counties in USA?
Sender: Lacey Graeme <[log in to unmask]>

In Australia, cadastral (land parcel) mapping is a function co-ordinated by
state government departments, who derive these data from surveys usually
conducted by private sector surveyors. Under the Torrens system of land
registration, the 8 states/territories also register the ownership and
transfers of land.

As a colleague is reviewing the digital cadastral mapping system in a number
of countries, it would be appreciated if someone could advise a website that
provides an overview of cadastral mapping in USA.

I understand cadastral (tax) mapping is conducted by each county tax
collector.

How many counties (ie separate cadastral/tax mapping systems) are there in
USA?
