It is a version of the Plan of Dover harbour by Thomas Digges c. 1582 in the British Library collection - ADD 11815B, although the original doesn’t have the captioning, which was probably added by the lithographer in the production of the copy that appears on the website; 2. He later revised his opinion, saying that he thought the map was by Matthäus Merian (1593-1650) - and had seen it dated to 1650. Would anyone in your Society be able to give me a definitive answer regarding the provenance of the map or, alternatively, do you know of anyone else who might be able to advise?
