This doesn't help Ellen, but her request reminded me of this bit of trivia:

At its meeting 5 Sept. 96 in Salt Lake City, the Domestic Names Committee
of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names approved a proposal by the Clark
County (NV) Board of Commissioners to "make official the name 'Unnamed
Wash' for a feature in Clark County."

In a message dated 96-11-25 10:26:35 EST, you write:

<< This person is looking for the name of a city that was once called
"Nameless City. >>

Not as unlikely as you might think. Georgia, Tennessee and Texas all have (or
had) places called "Nameless". None in Michigan, though, that I can find.

An there's also "No Name" in Ohio.
