North American Indian and Inuit Maps
This message posted on MAPS_L and CARTA.Although officially retired
from his post at the University of Sheffield, England, MALCOLM LEWIS
is continuing his long-standing research interest in maps made by the
native peoples of North America.  In particular, he continues his
work towards a cartobibliography (now complete to 1775) and to
examine the relationships between spoken language and the language of
maps. He has recently begun to investigate the use of maps in native-
white legal contexts.  Involvement as co-editor with David Woodward
in editing the volume on traditional cartography in The History of
Cartography series is causing him to extend his interests beyond
North America.
Malcolm Lewis continues to welcome information and requests relating
