They developed a web interface a couple years ago, but it wasn't that great. It only worked on IE and it was the exact same interface as the cd, except online. I'm not sure if they still have it. I believe it was a similar price to the CDs.

We have a lot of students using census data in GIS, so it's worth it for us to have Geolytics. We also install the programs on one of our computers in the lab, so we don't have to deal with CDs. The most recent Geolytics CD's actually work on a 64-bit computer, which is nice.

Hi Kathleen,

I'm not aware of a web interface. They have tiered network license subscriptions, but it's not something I think our library needs since the cost more than outweighs the need. We get maybe one request a year for the Geolytics data, usually from the same person. I pointed a student to UNC's webpage for the normalized census data and I think that's going to work fine. I don't think we'll have much of a need for our Geolytics cd's anymore, but I'll hold onto them for a while to be sure.

I thought Geolytics was developing a web interface ....? I stopped monitoring their activities years ago, I rely on the online products mentioned by others.

Subject: Social Explorer vs. Geolytics

Hello,

Is it necessary to keep any of our Geolytics census disks if we now have Social Explorer? Specifically, should we hold onto the Geolytics Neighborhood Change Database (NCDB) disks if we also have Social Explorer Pro? Our Geolytics disks rarely get used, but I wonder if Social Explorer provides the same detail for Neighborhood Change that the Geolytics data provides. Any information is appreciated.

Thanks!
