UC Libraries Business and Social Sciences Informationist/Data Librarian
UC Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, motivated, and service oriented Data Librarian to develop and deliver innovative research and instructional services to the UC communities in business and the social sciences. The incumbent will work collaboratively with business and social science faculty and with UCL faculty and staff to design, develop, and implement a suite of cohesive services for faculty and students in business and the social sciences for data access, management and preservation. Faculty tenure track position.

Relationship and Authority:
Reports to and receives general direction from the Head of Research, Teaching and Services and has a dotted line report to the Associate Dean for Library Services. Participates in the Informationist Group.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Plays a lead role in the development and implementation of consultation services for data access, management and preservation in business and the social sciences. Employ best practices to develop sustainable and domain-appropriate services and tools that support and enhance UC’s research agenda.
Assists users in finding, acquiring, manipulating and analyzing numeric data, spatial data and assisting in the use of statistical software.
Collaborates with other UC librarians and Informationists to implement research data management services and support for scholarly communication and digital scholarship.
Develops and delivers innovative research services to the UC business and social science community.
Identifies, champions, and implements data analysis tools and provides services that meet evolving business and social science research needs.
Provides specialized and well-integrated reference and research assistance.
Establishes relationships with and provides instruction and consultation to faculty and staff in response to their information needs to support teaching, grant preparedness and research.
Implements and evaluates instructional programs and services that support business, the social sciences and related disciplines.
Actively promotes and participates in new strategic endeavors, and digital content focused platforms and services, such as the digital repository, Scholar@UC (https://scholar.uc.edu).
Participates in appropriate committees, task forces, and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of the department, and in support of UC Libraries programs and organizations.
Participates in scholarly, professional, and service activities that enhance the mission of the University of Cincinnati Libraries.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a business or social science discipline or an equivalent field or an information science/management degree or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Strong commitment to innovative and responsive customer service.
Demonstrated understanding of trends and issues in the field of e-scholarship in the social sciences.
Ability to find, acquire, manipulate and analyze numeric data.
Demonstrated experience using quantitative research tools such as SPSS, Stata, R, GIS etc.
Knowledge of current computer technologies and services supporting business and the social sciences.
Knowledge of data mining and analysis tools, textual analysis, and/or TEI.
Entrepreneurial attitude to developing services; self-motivated, with the ability to set and attain goals effectively and the flexibility to adapt to change.
Excellent project management skills; experience coordinating and promoting services; experience communicating and collaborating with faculty.
Ability to develop and deliver innovative and responsive instructional programs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development and contribution, and ability to meet University of Cincinnati Libraries reappointment, promotion and tenure requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree, or additional graduate coursework, in or related to data analytics, GIS and/or digital scholarship.
Experience in an academic or research library environment.
Experience with a Research Commons or Digital Scholarship Lab.
An understanding of research processes and the research data lifecycle, as demonstrated through academic or work experience.
Experience in grant writing, or a familiarity with federal funding requirements.
Knowledge of current instructional pedagogies. Ability to design and develop online learning objects and instructional modules.
Commitment to ongoing process improvement. Demonstrated record of designing projects and bringing them to conclusion in a timely and cost-effective fashion.
Familiarity with statistical platforms such as WRDS or Bloomberg.
Familiarity with geo-spatial data and tools.
Experience with applying metadata and working with ontologies.
