1959-1975

Jim,

Have you checked World Mapping Today (ISBN: 1857390350)? It has a short
section on Vietnam, where it says that during the time of the war "...North
Vietnam was mapped according to Russian specifications by the National
Administration of Geodesy and Cartography, with maps using the Gauss
conformal transverse cylindrical projection, Krassovsky ellipsoid, and
published for the whole of North Vietnam at scales of 1:50,000, 1:100,000,
1:200,000, 1:500,000 and 1:1,000,000."

No map collections listed in the book but it does give contact information
for Vietnam agencies that might be able to provide copies of the old maps.
Also, perhaps Texas Tech's Vietnam Center and Archive staff might be of
help.

I am still seeking help with this request. Does anyone know if the North
Vietnamese had the equivalent of our Army Mapping Service?

Is there a national archives for Vietnam that might contain records of the
North Vietnamese activities?

Thank you.

Jim

I am seeking help in finding collections of military mapping that might have
been used by the Viet Cong and the NVA (North Vietnamese Army)(AKA The
Vietnam People's Army (VPA) also known as the People's Army of Vietnam,
North Vietnam during the time of the American involvement (1959-1975) in the
Vietnam War.

Thank you.
