Hi Andrea,

Quoting from a post made by David Compas to the Roadmaps-L discussion
forum on Feb. 2, 2010 under the heading <<RM: map company info>> ---

  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

<<Map collectors,

I recently located the info below, about Midwest Map Company and
Diversified Map Corp., in a box that has been buried. It may add some to
our knowledge of these two companies that no longer publish maps.

MWM Maps --- Two Burney brothers, Whaley and Johnny, operated a piano
store in Aurora, Missouri when they conceived of the idea that service
stations would buy road maps to give to their customers. They gave up
the piano store and began an office in a bank hotel building in town.
They farmed out actual printing. In the beginning the company was
Midwest Map Company, but as the nature of the business changed it became
MWM Color Press. MWM occupied a two story building in the northwest
corner of the square. Some early employees were: Ms. Opal Conrad and
Mrs. Margaret Ingram Morris. (Summarized from a copy of a magazine
article mailed to me by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce in July 1981)
(Sorry no dates or other good data appear in the article).

Diversified Map Corp. --- .................. >>

Good luck with your research; all best, Pat Morris

  > I'm trying to compile some facts on the Mid West Map Company in Aurora,
  > MO. During the 1920's and 1930's, the company made road maps to be
  > branded with the names of hotels, service stations, etc. Somewhere in
  > either the 30's or 40's, they stopped making road maps, focusing instead
  > on printing, lithographs, etc. They merged with another company in 1980
  > and still exist in Aurora as a printing company. I don't have concrete

  > I'd like to confirm dates on when the company printed maps or details of
