Jenny,
One of the better things I did for our collection was define its scope; in particular, I said what we won't collect. Getting rid of things outside of your scope is the easiest first step. Emily-Jane's article is good!

Subject: Weeding protocol for Maps?
HI Folks,
I am pretty new to the role of Maps Librarian for our fairly small collection, but first task is a review of our existing collection policy and to undertake a good weed of the existing collection.
I have not found many weeding protocols others have used on the net, to serve as an example, with the exception of experiences shared by Emily-Jane Dawson from Multnomah County Library (http://www.waml.org/ib/waml-information-bulletin/46-2/weeding-the-map-collection-observations-and-advice/) ( Thanks for sharing Emily!) (http://www.waml.org/ib/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/figure2.pdf)
Would anyone else who has written up an outline for consideration/weeding protocol, for weeding a physical Maps Collection, be kind enough to share? I would be happy to compile any received into a list for the group.
Thanks for any advice you might offer. Cheers. Jenny.
