Ag Teachers,

REMINDER - American Degree applications are due May 15. If you have students who have graduated from your program and have maintained their Supervised Agricultural Experience programs, please encourage them to apply. A student has three calendar years after they graduate from high school to be eligible to apply for the American Degree. Example: a 2022 high school graduate is eligible to apply for the American Degree in 2023, 2024 or 2025.

Everyone,

Kevin Jump and I want to thank the site supervisors, teachers, chaperones,
and FFA members involved in the VERY successful two days of community
service during the 96th State FFA Convention this year. Everyone
worked hard and seemed to have a great time fulfilling the "Living to
Serve" part of the FFA Motto last Wednesday and Thursday. Homeowners and
site supervisors alike had nothing but positive comments about the
students', teachers', and chaperones' efforts and results.

*2024 Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center Adopt-A-Summer-Staff Program *

Last year, our Adopt-A-Summer-Staff Program went so well that we have
decided to bring it back!

For those unfamiliar with the program, we assign one of our summer staff to
someone who is volunteering to “adopt” them for the summer. The adopter
will send in three separate care packages throughout the summer to help
encourage and support their adoptee.

Good morning teachers! I hope everyone had a great convention last week!

We will be using the Kaleidoscope system again this year for awards money
for your chapters and students. The link will not be available until next
week after Kaleidoscope uploads the winners from the competitions held
during the convention last week.

We had hoped to make the system easier by using chapter names and student
last names to claim awards money. Unfortunately, the cost to do that was a
significant increase so the system will be the same as last year. We plan
to send step by step

Attached is a one-pager that explains a few policies about entering the arena at the Centreplex. Expect a very similar experience to the past few years. We have asked the building to have more people working and more check points open, but people entering the arena will be checked before entering. Please have your attendees be aware of the clear bag policy. Also, this year rather than providing convention buttons for all attendees, we are providing a hanging badge on a lanyard. Dear Agriculture Teachers:

As a person, we celebrate many milestones in our life. Marriage, birth of
children, careers, and retirement to name a few. As teachers of
Agriculture, we celebrate many student successes without looking for
recognition. As a teacher of Agricultural Education, our lives are often
enriched and fulfilled by helping students and communities embrace the
industry of Agriculture. We also know that many sacrifices must be made to
run a successful Agriculture program. However, in retirement there is a
chance that your peers will recognize you for the contributions you made to
students and to the profession. Thus,

Please see the attached report for entries submitted for the 2024 State FFA
Agriscience Fair. If you do not see your student's projects on this list,
please be sure you have officially submitted them for review. If your
students name is highlighted yellow, please check your applications to make
sure the student logged in through their official FFA ID. If it is yellow,
it means there may be an issue with an FFA ID.

All,

We are again offering the P-5 (Elementary Agriculture) endorsement classes again this summer at ABAC. The courses are 100% online. Enrollment is open for summer.

Upon completion of the three courses, we will work with you to submit your information to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) to receive your endorsement in Elementary Agriculture. This endorsement is for those teachers that already hold a teaching certification in Georgia (Ag Ed or Ele Ed) and preservice students enrolled in an approved teacher preparation program. Others can enroll, but may have to complete additional exams through the GaPSC.

Teachers,

I encourage you to check out this fundraising program, Front Door Produce,
owned and operated by Brad and Laura Mathis. They work directly with local
farmers and growers to source the best produce available and then provide
that produce in a box to your buyers.

Their fundraisers typically run for two to three weeks. Your chapter would
sell produce boxes, and after the fundraiser ends, the boxes are delivered
to your location. Their team will also help provide resources like digital
images, social media content, and customizable flyers to help promote your
fundraiser.

We are planning for Animal Science in Action to be on June 3rd and 4th this year in Athens. Animal Science in Action is a two-day program designed for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in science and careers in animal science. Participants engage in a series of laboratory experiments and visit each of the college's main teaching farms for hands-on activities with beef and dairy cattle, horses, swine, and sheep. Current CAES animal and dairy science students help lead the program.

Ag Education lost a true trailblazer last night in the passing of Ms.
Connie Collier. Ms. Collier was the first female graduate in Ag Education
from Auburn University and was the first female Ag Teacher in the
Southeast. She taught for 7 years in Alabama and then moved to Cass High
School in Bartow County where she taught from 1979 until her retirement in

Ag Teachers,

The 2024 Georgia Junior National Livestock Show is scheduled for February 21-24 at the Agricenter in Perry. To put on such a quality show for our Georgia youth requires many hands. We kindly request assistance from teachers, agents, and volunteers to help us get the job done. It is not mandatory that you be a livestock expert in order to help. We can provide on the job training and will put you in role where you are safe. A full schedule is attached.

We have run into a great problem (?) for our 23rd Annual Elberton Dairy

have in the past. Because of this, we are very limited on space, so we are
making the show on Saturday a no-blow show and will make the judge aware of
the situation so they can judge accordingly. If you would prefer to fully

Georgia High School Agriculture Teachers,

For the past three years ABAC Agricultural Education and Communication Department has held an Ag Issues CDE/Invitational. This is an FFA CDE that happens at the national level but is not yet a full CDE in Georgia. However, Georgia FFA recognizes our winner and will certify the winning team to compete at the national level events. The past two years Georgia has done well at the national level. Please consider preparing your team and competing in this event. We plan to hose the event Friday, May 3rd at ABAC.

Dear Agriculture Teachers,

I wanted to reach out one final time to invite you to participate in a
research study about your perceptions and implementation of Supervised
Agricultural Experience (SAE) and SAE for All in your agricultural
education program *by January 24*. This survey is my dissertation research
at North Carolina State University and should only take about 10-20 minutes
to complete. For the most reader-friendly format, we do recommend
completing the survey on a computer instead of a mobile device. I would
greatly appreciate your time in completing the survey below.

Well......we name it that for a reason :)
While right now no snow is in the forecast, they are calling for early
temperatures in the teens and a high of 30 which means that we have two
major changes for Saturday.

Start time is being pushed to 11am to allow for safer travels.
Barn will still open at 6am and weigh-in will be from 8:30-10:00am.

The Southern Chapter of AIFD has developed an opportunity for your students
to compete in floral design at their GATHER Conference. This contest is not
an Ag Ed event but would be an excellent opportunity for you and your
students to develop your floral design skills.

I have attached three documents from AIFD to give you additional

Two important deadlines to keep in mind as we close this week....

* National FFA Scholarship Applications close TODAY, Jan 11. Please encourage your 12th grade students, and former members who are in college/tech or trade school to complete their applications before the application process closes at midnight tonight. Please keep in mind that the national FFA staff and support team will likely work until 5 PM. Please do not get caught in a situation where assistance is required, but not available, late tonight.
