*Georgia Schools Invited to Apply for Lieutenant Governors’ STEM Education
Scholarship Program*

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

*February 9, 2024*

ATLANTA | The National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) application
period for the third annual Lt. Governors’ STEM Scholarship Program is now
open. The scholarship is sponsored by ACT and would award up to $1,000 to
12 schools nationally to support STEM-related activities for youth.
Applications will be accepted until *March 15, 2024*, with award recipients
announced and funded in spring 2024.

“As the child of public school educators, I understand and value the
importance of STEM Education in our pre-K – 12 schools,” said *Lt. Governor
Burt Jones* “This Scholarship Program supports STEM-related activities,
which are vitally important as we continue to prioritize innovative
programs to grow Georgia’s workforce and educate future Generations of
Georgians.”

NLGA will award twelve scholarships to twelve schools in twelve different
states and territories, worth $10,000 total. The Scholarship Program is
administered by NLGA, the nonpartisan, nonprofit association for the
nation’s seconds-in-command, and sponsored by ACT, the education and career
readiness nonprofit.

“ACT is proud to once again sponsor this program,” *ACT CEO Janet Godwin*
said. “ACT data shows that the current state of STEM readiness is cause for
serious concern. ACT is uniquely poised to meet this moment, and working
alongside NLGA, we are committed to ensuring that all students leave high
school prepared to enter a world of evolving postsecondary and work
opportunities, including through access to a high-quality STEM education.”

All public, private, and tribal schools in the 50 states and five U.S.
territories are invited to apply at nlga.awardsplatform.com. Funding will
be awarded to schools to support STEM-related activities, programming,
curriculum, equipment, and other expenses.

“The need for increased educational opportunities in STEM is non-partisan
and an area of consensus for the nation’s lieutenant governors,” said *NLGA
Executive Director Julia Brossart*. “NLGA has adopted STEM Education as a
pillar of work for the association on behalf of Members, who know the
importance of educating students in STEM to prepare for the jobs of
tomorrow.”
