Hi Gary, If you can't get to the egg case then there's likely nothing you can do as they will dry to dust given enough time. If you can, however, you might dip it in glycerin (or spray it with a mixture of 10% glycerin and ethanol) and thoroughly dry it before putting it back. The remaing film of glycerin will help prevent further drying. However you might find that what is happening is not flaking but particles of sand and crushed embryonic shell being shaken out of the case.
